  Yes, mud bone was definitely a persona. He had did it in many of his standups and album releases so this is after he had caught on fire and been through a lot of health issues so the crowd wanted him to do Mudbone and he just improvised it for the audience.

  This is Richard Pryor first show after his accident. This was the second  show recorded at The  Hollywood Palladium. After he accidentally set himself on fire while smoking drugs. Mudbone was a character that he created. So when he referenced fire that is one reason that the audience laughed. I was in the audience at that time. January of 1982
