Rob here: "SUCK, SQUEEZE, BANG, BLOW" <b>does</b> describe the workings of a jet engine, as well as a four stroke. Google it.<br><br>The New Delhi air crash wasn't the worst air crash ever. The 1977 Tenerife airport disaster cost more lives. Thanks to those who pointed this out.<br><br>And Jess knows the Sopwith aircraft are from WWI. She just suffered a slipped of the tongue in her enthusiasm.

Jess mentioning the Sopwith reminded me of an old joke. A women’s club held a dinner to honor an elderly war hero who had been an ace pilot in the big war. During his remarks he recounted one of his greatest dogfights, telling the ladies all about how he tangled with the “Fokker.” “The Fokker was on my tail, so I pulled back on the stick and looped around — now the Fokker was in my sights! But that Fokker dove and peeled away…” On and on he went, Fokker this and Fokker that, all the while his pronunciation of Fokker sounding like a rather rude word, making several ladies in the audience visibly uncomfortable. <br><br>Finally, a woman on the dais interrupted him: “Pardon me, sir, but I just want to remind everyone here that a Fokker is a kind of airplane.”<br>“Yes, that’s correct,” he replied. “But this fokker was in a Messerschmitt.”

Back in 1996 when I joined the US Army and was going through Basic training, one of the things we had to learn the first week was the phonetic alphabet. We had a guy in our training company who didn't realize that there was a set list of words, and kept trying to spell things phonetically using whatever words came to his mind. I will never forget this exact moment of my life when I heard this guy say "Fort. I spell... Funky, Ocelot, Rickets, Tuba." We all rolled in laughter because, seriously, who has Rickets and ocelot in their back pocket as everyday words???

<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2pWWECvdvc&t=333">5:33</a> "suck, squeeze, bang, blow" is a common description of how a 4 stroke engine works, including car engines.

Regarding English as the language of air traffic, there’s an old story about a German pilot being corrected to speak English coming into Ramstein. The pilot ranted, “I’m a German pilot in a German plane landing at a German airport. Why should I speak English!”<br>After a pause, a very British pilot’s voice said, “Because you lost the bloody war.”😂

When I'm driving to a destination and my wife is using the GPS and maps to help us figure out where we need to go, she calls what she's doing "nag-ivation" . . . and she's very good at it. For example: ''At this exit you'll want to turn right from the left-most right turn lane and then look for the Aldi store on our left . . . NO, not THAT lane!"

"Suck Squeeze Bang Blow" is also the way the Otto Cycle works in car engines, both gas and diesel. I love the kind of cute way Rob suffers occasionally from "foot in mouth disease", and how Jess finds that hilarious...it's a real mood lifter for me. Thank you!

A little humorous aside:<br>"Generally English is the Lingua franca of aviation communication"<br>I hope you're lightly amused .<br>Brilliant channel, thank you both.
