  He wasn’t unknown to basketball fans,  after his junior year he was chosen in the first round of the NBA draft. The Celtics knew he had one more season of college before he could sign with them, they knew he was worth waiting for.

  Living in Southern New Hampshire in the 70's, I was a HUGE Boston Celtics fan.  We had known the Celts had drafted Larry Bird in 1978, but we hadn't seen him play.  After the NCAA Tournament in 1979, we knew the Celts were going to be winners again. I think Larry Joe Bird is the BEST Basketball Player I have ever seen, and I have seen a few in my 65+ years.  Shooting, Passing, Rebounding, Defense, Court Sense, The Hick From French Lick had and did it ALL.

  Bird’s court awareness was off the charts. He seemed to know where all ten players on the court were at at every moment and exactly what the situation called for.

  Larry Bird was a known star at 15 yrs old. He was on national sports news while a sophomore in high school. anybody that knew anything about basketball knew who LarryBird was years before he got to the big leagues.

  I don&apos;t think the game has or will ever see another player like Larry Bird... I know MJ is the GOAT, but Larry Bird right there with him! Bird could take control of the game and brought all of his teammates up to his level with his play. MJ could do that sometimes, but Bird did it all the time, every games.

  Larry Bird was sick with the flu when Indiana State played Micigan state .<br> He still scored 24 points while being sick .<br> Magic Johnson dodged the bullet that day .

  I have only cried twice in my adult life -- once when I shook Magic Johnson&apos;s hand when he was a senior at Everett High School the year before he came to Michigan State (back in 1978, I believe it was...). And the second is when I saw &quot;The Night Unknown Larry Bird Became Feared&quot;. LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL!
