  Regarding the section of this video addressing how the British imperial history is taught in the UK, Simon asks how its taught in countries that used to be subject to the crown but now aren&apos;t. Growing up as an American, my public school history classes kind of taught Greek, Roman and British history as &quot;our&quot; history and didn&apos;t really separate an American experience out &nbsp;until the French-Indian War (Seven Years War) which is when we were first told about tensions between the loyalists subjects and the Colonials who would later rebel. That&apos;s when the British start being the &quot;other guys&quot;.

  I have visited Germany many times and was married to a woman from East Berlin. I learned a bit about this topic, and yes, it&apos;s very accurate, the German culture has embraced their past and tried to learn from it. I find that inspirational.

  As a German in his 40s, I can only say that World War II takes up almost 1 1/2 years of school time. Furthermore, the memory of these crimes against humanity is omnipresent and unavoidable!

  Years ago I saw a documentary about an incident involving a minor uprising against British authority in which all the insurgents were killed, with no army casualties. A hard fought battle was reported, but analysis of the area revealed that the number of fired &nbsp;.303 cases was exactly the same as the number of dead victims. This indicated more of a mass murder than a battle.
