  My mother worked for corecivic. She said it was awful. She had to fight for every single medical test or treatment even when it was obvious that was the one needed for the person to get better or find out what they have.

  I work in a County Jail currently, I socialize with the Inmates quite often (mostly due to the biggest floor being minimum security where you are in the pod with 50-70 inmates of which felons are not supposed to be on said floor but over-crowding makes this impossible). When I first transferred we had many officers that were definitely like shawshanks officers, there was fighting, assaults on guards (the worst one on myself, even though I have always treated them like human beings). The entire job was in general worse, but once those officer finally left or got fired the jail has become progressively safer. I went from multiple use of forces per day to maybe 1 a month, so treating them like human beings definitely makes a massive difference and keeps people out of the hospital at the very least, if you have a few that have had the badge go to their head it can make life hell for everyone. We do not provide ways for Inmates to gain skills in jail, but generally jail is short term, prisons definitely need to do so, not to mention an inmate can serve their time, then when they get out they get denied jobs because of their past? How can we expect them not to go back to crime if they cant make more than minimum wage? Getting out means rejoining society, yet we still put all these restrictions on those people some of which punish literally forever, and finally I have seen trafficking/ drug use get more time than child molesters for god sakes. WTF are we doing...

We&apos;ve seen a lot of positive progress in the last two years. I work at the Washington State Penitentiary and I&apos;ve seen the difference its made
