  Apologists reconciling biblical contradictions sound so much like science fiction fans trying to reconcile inconsistencies between show canon and something that happened in an episode.   At a certain point, they just strain credulity.

  An irony I don&apos;t think I&apos;d fully appreciated previously is that fundamentalists end up distorting and misunderstanding their own sacred texts, not despite but BECAUSE of the fact they view them as sacred. &nbsp;If you gave them a collection of philosophy essays, they&apos;d presumably understand perfectly well that, say, Aristotle, Kant, and Nietzsche are all saying very different things, and be able to grasp what each different author is saying. &nbsp;Whereas if you tried to interpret them on the premise that they must all be in agreement, you&apos;d necessarily end up getting all of them wildly wrong.

  First, they said Judas acquired the field. Next, they said the chief priest acquired the field. Then, there was never a field and it was all a hoax by the democrats. All I know is that there is no security camera footage of Judas’ death, and the gospels can’t seem to agree on the names of the twelve apostles. Release the list!

  For something that is said to be &quot;God&apos;s word&quot; and/or &quot;inspired by God&quot; it sure needs a lot of outside interpretation, explanation, and excuses to live up to the high standard many Christians give the Bible.

  Is it POSSIBLE that God said “just kidding, go ahead and have fun” after “Thou shalt not commit adultery”… but that was simply left out of the text?
