As an Adirondack resident for 22 years, the absolute most remote place I’ve ever found in the state is in the silver lake wilderness straight off of Benson Road. You go straight north into the woods and continue straight, there is sections of 20+ miles with zero people or structures. Particularly due north from little Holmes lake.

Beautiful! I am 65 and have been going to the Adirondacks since I was 6 years old. Never been anywhere near the Five Ponds.

I have a great Sand Lake story - backpacked in with my girlfriend at the time, she became my wife since. We crossed a tiny stream about a mile before Sand Lake. It was pouring and then it poured over night. The next day we were hiking out and that stream was IMPOSSIBLE to cross. I MIGHT have figured out a way by myself but my wife was TERRIFIED and COULD NOT. We hiked back to the Sand Lake leanto and spent the night again. It was relatively dry overnight and we were hoping that all the rain water from the previous 24 hours drained and subsided. When we got back there the next day it had, and we had to hike out all the way to Wanakena that day because of having to get back home - we had planned to take 2 days to backpack out but since we got stuck we had to double up.

You haven't been to a remote place in NY until you encounter a squatch while alone

ADK is the greatest place in America.  Private camps and State Forest all as a gift.  Just need to drive North from Lake George or East from Adams Center and you are in the most peaceful heaven.

As someone who grew up in Wanakena, I’m immensity impressed with you depiction and appreciation of the beautiful Five Ponds Wilderness. Growing up with this as my backyard I’ve always cherished the remoteness and beauty of this area.  This video does and incredible job expressing that appreciation.  Thank you! Happy exploring.

West ADKS > East ADKS. Awesome video. Most people call it yellow birch.
