Correction, the child in the epilogue was Layla's GRANDdaughter. Not her daughter. The child even askes if D knew her "Grandmother Layla."

Speaking of D's charm, Hideyuki goes overboard in describing his appearance. And gorgeous. He uses the word gorgeous at least 60 times per novel lol

Bloodlust was an incredible film. We need more films. No CG garbage. It must be old school.

One of the best anime of all time, and it is 40 years old. My father and I watched the movie when we were in Hawaii, back in 1986. I loved it, but I didnt understand the story. Now, I think is was a masterpiece. I hope we get back to this level of story telling in the mainstream.

Vampire Hunter D is one of my favorite novel series of all time! They have the books on audible recorded in both dramatic audio, and regular narrations. I highly recommend them to anyone who is a fan of the books, movies, or manga.

Carmilla in the movie even confuses him for the Vampire King.

D’s left hand belongs to a race of symbioses called the countenanced carbuncle. It is the same race as the gigantic wolf muzzle in the abdomen of Mashira, the werewolf in bloodlust.

I like how there is a village called Tepes. Nice reference to Dracula as his his name is Vlad III Dracula Tepes with Tepes being more of an epithet than a name that means “The Impaler”.

If you read the books, D story is pretty clear:

SPOILER ALERT!

His father, the King of the Vampires, Dracula, fell in love with a beautiful human woman, who also loved him back. He was born out of that love and later his father did horrible experiments with him, with the goal of saving the vampire race. Somehow, those experiments ended in total success. His twin was also a success. Dracula spent millenia trying to get more successful dhampyrs, but all of them were a failure.

D suffered so much, he doesn't want vampires, or dhampyrs, to exist anymore. His goal is to erradicate them from the planet. Although, when he finds vampires, dhampys or monsters who are not evil, he forbids them, or even tries to help them. He has a strict moral code and is a total gentleman.

D's scared of becoming like his father: although his intentions were good, he became corrupted, which is pretty common among vampires who live for long periods of time. His dad made humans, dhampyrs and vampires suffer with his experiments. Many babies died. He's also scared of falling in love, losing friends and lovers (since he doesn't age or dies) and creating more dhampyrs as a result. Because vampires and damphyrs are able to reproduce, both among themselves and with humans. He would like to live a normal life, but it's impossible for him. So he just accepts his fate, his suffering and dedicates his life to help humanity.

END OF SPOILERS.

I'm sure Castlevania's main storyline with Dracula and Alucard are based off Vampire Hunter D novels. D and Alucard are very similar characters. Also Alucard from Hellsing and Vincent Valentine from FF7 are pretty much based off D, too.

Guess you didn't catch the implication of the picture of Dracula on the wall in the mansion when the daughter of the count was praying to the ancient ancestor calling to him as Dracula and at the end when the count finally realizes d,s creator is Dracula
