3:00 my mom has always said you can edit crap but you can't edit nothing. So start writing even if it's very bad. It'll get you into the place where it starts to be good.

My mom used to say, "If you have to eat an elephant, start on its ear." Although I only learned about my ADHD as a late 50's woman, this advice has served me well all of my life. When I face overwhelming tasks, I just do one thing. For example: just pick it up, open it up, just walk towards it, just look at it, etc. One very small step. I don't even think ahead to the next very small step. This has been really helpful for me. Your videos are helpful too. Thank you for making and sharing them. I am an Endel subscriber. Awesome tool. I would go as far as to say life changing for me.

It hurts because my parents can’t understand how I think. When I tried to tell them I just got mocked and got told that it's all in my head.

    TIMESTAMPS

11: 1:05 Move before you focus. Exercise slightly to get the brain online.

10: 2:25 Make a lot of small goals to reach wins faster and build momentum

9: 3:33 Use sound (like a specific music playlist when you do the dishes) to signify activity and workflow shifts

8: 5:36 Change goals such as “lose 10 pounds” into identity frameworks like “I am the kind of person who moves every day” The goal stays in the future where the identity is accessed today and counts as a “win”

7: 6:35 Create a way to get back into your task by slightly starting whatever you’ll come back to. Last paragraph on an email? Write the first sentence then take the break, etc.

6: 7:26 Build finish lines into time blocks like “dry dishes until the microwave is done” or “I’ll study till the laundry is over” Use specific times (not round and easy numbers like 30’s or 15 mins)

5: 8:29 Make your hard tasks seem easier by priming yourself with something even harder. Important phone call? 60 seconds under freezing water will make it seem not so bad.

4: 9:47 Be cautious not to go too heavily into your current fixation because you can spike your novelty and it will be hard to maintain interest. Got into running? If you buy the shoes, clothes and running accessories all in the first day you lose the milestones and progressional payoff points that would continue momentum and motivation.

3: 11:00 Make it easy to anticipate the reward and reaching your goal and interests. Reward emotions could last for hours but the positive emotions, momentum and motivation you’ll feel from the anticipation of the reward can be stretched farther.

2: 12:28 Clap once / create a sudden and sharp sound to reorientate yourself to your task and focus again. Break the internal cycle of fog via external.

1: 13:42 Start your day off right to continue the flow because adhd brains can get stuck on the wrong things like doomscrolling because we’re all or nothing. Positive and productive in the morning will more likely continue throughout the day.

4:40 It's the other way round. We have constant background noise in our head because we can't filter them effectively. background noise helps not noticing the unclear signals so only the clear signals are left. This is way that background noise (and music) works best at a low volume. If it's too loud, it destroys the clear signals as well.
