  Karpov is the chess player who impresses me the most; his game is profound, he's a great strategist, patient, logically following plans—he's my favorite. His style and philosophy on the board are what I identify with most.

  Karpov said that win or lose vs Fischer he would gained valuable experience and insight into chess strategy. <br>He considered himself the underdog, but in his match with Spassky he ended up winning as convincingly as Fischer had.

  Karpov had that steely eyed personality. &nbsp;His games are like a tightly woven wire fence. &nbsp;And the moment there is a small gap in the opponent&apos;s game, it was over. &nbsp;He didn&apos;t have the fireworks of a Tal or Fischer so it would have been really interesting to see how they matched. &nbsp;I think Fischer ultimately would have prevailed with some wild ideas but it definitely would have been close with a few draws involved.

  That Rh2 idea is so stealthy and black is in trouble on the K-side if he trades and on the Q-side if he doesn&apos;t. Sick.
