I bought the book about the hero and read it. It’s amazing what else he did. He was a true hero. What was caught on film was just a part of it, his last stand. But he had an amazing career before this.

I was Air Force and worked in Intel. Those CCT boys are no joke; they’re all internally self-programmed to complete the mission and save as many lives as possible with zero regard for their own lives in the process. MSgt. Chapman is an inspiration, a hero and a legend. He’s everything an American should aspire to be.

As a former Ranger...this is heartbreaking, makes me sick to my stomach. But this shows the calibre of men we have in our military.

Chapman wasn't trapped on a mountain with insurgents. The insurgents were trapped on a mountain with Chapman

What this video doesn't include is that originally, the Seal team was in a helicopter that was hit by enemy fire.
Neal Roberts was thrown out the door but radioed after he landed that he was still alive.
That helicopter made a controlled crash on a nearby summit. Once they got picked up by another helicopter, they went to rescue him, but he had already been killed.

Thank you so much for reacting to this. Current USAF here, Chapman was a huge hero for me and why I joined the air force.

People in America always think SEALS, Rangers, Green Berets, Delta Force, etc but those guys will usually admit Air Force 24th STS Guys are the BEST of ALL of our Special Forces. Most of these guys are trained to go in alone, as a "Combat Controller" or "Forward Air Controller", before anybody else. Imagine being maybe 1 of 12 guys dropped in ALONE (not another soldier in this entire Nation) so you can help guide troop units and air cover as the invasion/battles begin. No worries you're trained to literally be a one man army!

Their motto is "First There" shortened version of the motto "First there - So others may live!"

R.I.P. (Hero) TSGT John Chapman

Thank you guys for reacting to this. As a veteran myself and coming from a military family this truly touched me. What a hero this man was. RIP John Chapman and all his fellow soldiers who lost their lives here.

It's deplorable how the Seals tried to block his award. Perhaps because they left him wounded and fighting to save themselves.
Chapman is a true hero.

I served with one of the men in Chapman's platoon's brother . From what he told me Chapman was definitely the one who would do this. He was a true hero.
