My wife was neurotypical, and I am ADHD. The first year of our marriage was me losing my car keys or wallet or phone, and her losing her mind. There came a moment when I was late for work and couldn't find my keys. She got angry, and I said, "Look, babe, there is nothing you can say or do that will make me feel any worse about myself than I already do." She looked at me, teared up, and in that moment realized it wasn't her job to 'fix' me. It was her job to help me. We have Tiles on EVERYTHING now. 9 years into our marriage, she suffered a massive pulmonary embolism followed by cardiac arrest and a resulting anoxic TBI. Now, it's my job to help her, and my pleasure to do so.

I think an ADHDer will be more honest than a neurotypical in a survey. We tend to overshare for NO reason and then regret it

I have ADHD, Autism & OCD. The best practices I've ever invested in are nervous system regulator practices. Meditation, sound baths, breath work, somatic experiencing, yoga and focusing. I can't tell you how much these impact my life positively. I really hope someone reads this and gives it a try.

Having ADHD feels as though everyday is a catastrophe. The things you need to do cause anxiety, the things you love to do become boring. People see you as unreliable, spouses see you as disconnected, and parents see you as lazy. The constant mind racing and heighten state of anxiety drains you to the point of pure mental and physical exhaustion, making you too tired and sluggish to enjoy anything day by day. These things are just the tip of the iceberg.

As a 52 year old woman with ADHD who has been in a relationship for over 16 years, I think that there are two main things that keep the relationship strong: 1. Communication 2. Channeling spontaneity into other aspects of life—like creativity. I write, paint, do woodworking, and lots of other stuff.

Narcissistic abuse involves very inconsistent rewards and punishments, it's very addictive for people with low dopamine. I was loyal and devoted to my wife for 16 years and stayed confused most of that time. She blamed my adhd for pretty much everything wrong even when it didn’t make any sense like her leaving me alone with our infant for 8 weeks last minute to do a long hike.

I only realized recently that she was abusive pretty much the whole time. When she turned 40 this summmer she started seeing a 28 year old she met at the gym and told me to deal with it. I ended the relationship and freed myself and my son from her tyranny.

People with disabilities are more likely to be the victims of crimes and abuse than the perpetrators of them.

I’m AUHD and have not experienced any of these issues. All my relationships have been long term and I’ve never cheated. And for me my love of animals and nature is beyond all measure. I weep at the beauty of an animal and it feels like my heart will explode with joy. Nothing on earth makes me joy except animals and nature. My brain would light up. These things are not a monolith. I am deeply empathic, deeply justice and morality centred, not human centred. Animals matter more to me than anything else. And the love I have for them and the protecting/caring role is the core of me.

I have ADHD and it’s what makes me more loyal, I’m an overthinker so I constantly put myself in others shoes. Plus growing up feeling broken and being abandoned by my dad makes me never want to put anyone through that pain. Yes I’m impulsive but I’m also a deep lover. Too bad my five year relationship ended with her cheating so I’ll never trust another woman again :)
