  I wish that more people would understand a large proportion of people who "Make things about them" are actually just trying to relate to you by showing you they have experienced something similar and not trying to one up your situation

  That second story...he saved the life of a guy that had been essentially in the same field as him. And it led to solutions being presented that he didn&apos;t know was possible. So it didn&apos;t just fix things, but it gave him a different angle to manage things with. That&apos;s fairly significant.

  i mean, if someone just completely checks out and their only explanations are handwavy little cliches like &quot;I&apos;m busy,&quot; or &quot;I&apos;m tired,&quot; yes, thats a signal to an emotionally attentive person that the relationship is probably coming to a close.

  I spent a year practicing holding my tongue. I definitely say before I think. That year taught me a lot so I totally get why OP did this. Sometimes you just need to intentionally practice something to shift your perspective.

  If the person had announced to everyone, &quot;I&apos;m going to stop complaining for a year,&quot; believe me, they&apos;d have accused the poster of trying to be better than them or covertly criticizing them or passing judgement on them silently every time they complained.

  I&apos;m not exactly sure how I got here.... But... I did not realize how much I needed this. The piano, the bouncy curls, the different voices, the interjections with things we&apos;re all thinking, but calm, and quiet. It&apos;s good old fashioned story telling, not the assault on my nervous system I get from overzealous narrators while trying to listen to audiobooks. I love this.
