Certain US products cannot be sold in South Africa (or the rest of the world ) because of the harmful ingredients( or sugar content) that they contain. So the bootleg version is how many companies get around that...without damaging their brand but still selling to new markets.

Honestly don't think american food brands will take off anywhere in Africa, as it's associated with heavily processed and gmo ingredients, whereas it's the opposite with most African organic products and stricter food health regulations than that of the states

Mrs Balls is a traditional South African sauce made with fruit. It goes well with curries and used in stews etc. It's delicious. The no 1 thing missed by South African expats as you don't get it anywhere else
