Thank you,as always, for the great tutorial. I can smell sawdust and shavings when I watch your videos. It is a privilege to watch you work.

What you have done there is make us all happier with our own attempts.

I would happily take this off your hands Maestro if you'd sign it inside the lid with the scribe "I'm just another human being" you did a beautiful job with the turning of a very difficult wood to work.

Please be kind to yourself mate. I know a lot of turners who wouldn't even consider using Doug fir for a project like this, because they think it's too difficult to achieve a quality result. You're just showing your legendary status was earned for a reason.

I think the two threaded parts could be put together and chucked as a jam for the lid to be able to hold it by the threaded end. Excellent as always Mr. Raffan. Thank you.

The Inserts look interesting. I like that they can be cut some with turning tools if necessary. A few growing pains on the best strategy for using them. Thanks for showing that.

As luck would have it, I am doing a club demo on fitting threaded inserts tonight. Thank you for letting me know I am on the right path.

Richard
I am a number at turning & recently retiree. Love your work & requested a few of your books for Christmas.
Had wanted to do a threaded box & didn't want to spend the $ for inserts to start. I used over-the-counter pharmacy bottles (supplements, aspirin, etc.) from which I removed the threaded portion to attempt early trials. Epoxied the box threads in place, then, after they cured, epoxies the lid portion in place , allowing me to align the grain & set the fit. Worked well for me. I will look into the insert sets you used for future attempts.
Thanks for your sharing your expertise. There are talented turners and there are great teachers. You, sir, are the rare exception of one that is both.

Love the idea for the threaded adapters. Although not ideal for turning it's great to see you use some wood from my State!
