I have a 2.7 manual 986.2 in Speed Yellow. It never fails to make me look back at it when I park up. Being an old school guy (I'm 57), I find its analogue feel suits me down to the ground. No warning bongs, no touch screens, no bloody annoying stop/start function, no buttons on the steering wheel, a proper key that you turn, a manual shift, and hydraulic steering. Just me and my car. Perfect.

I think I'm a collector, I have 10 cars, 9 convertibles with 4 being Boxster' I took my 2004 six speed manual anniversary out today and wound out second gear. The sound was absolutely incredible. There's no 12 step program, so I'm an addict for life. etv

Agree on the 981 Boxter Base. I’ve had a 1978 911 and I’m not unhappy at all with the 981! Even with some electric steering help it’s a riot!

The 981 is the best looking Porsche ever built. The proportions are perfect and the car looks great from every angle. In addition, the mid engine handling and the sound of the N.A. flat 6 are both soul stirring.

Greetings from New Zealand, where we drive a 2015 Cayman GTS in racing yellow. We just did a 2000 km road trip last week, with very bumpy roads in places, (front bottomed out a few times) and of course the most twisty roads we could find. The car was superb, economical when we wanted to chill, fast & planted when we felt like blowing out the cobwebs. Averaged under 8 litres per 100kms (over 36mpg) across all driving styles. Your coverage of the various models was spot on and will be helpful to buyers.

Had a 986 Boxster on a 996 Turbo wheel set and while there was no end of grip because of the small power output it rode like a wagon on the 35 series rubber. That car felt like it never settled down, I described it as like driving one of those small dogs that is always shaking. Replaced it with an 08 Cayman that I daily during the summer and while the tiptronic is dimwited it’s so much nicer in traffic when you want to grab a coffee. If I want to row gears I jump in my NA MX-5. He is not wrong that you can’t go wrong with either the Boxster or Cayman.

Another fantastic, entertaining and informative video Nathan! A porsche is a Porsche. It doesnt matter if its a $15k one. The ingrediants of what makes it a Porsche are still there!

I'm coming up on 6 years of ownership of my 981 CGTS (6MT/X73/PTV). It's a brilliant road car and a quick and competent track toy. It is not inexpensive to maintain properly (my PADM sensors from PoPo Racing were just delivered, for example), but it has never left me stranded and it is an absolute joy to drive. The only real modification I've needed to make is to add a 3rd party Carplay card to the nav unit and that has served me reasonably well since it was installed 3 years ago. And it looks like Porsche is coming out with a PCCM unit for the 981 generation cars.

Watched the whole video as a 981 and former 987.1 owner just because I like hearing Nathan talk lol. I have a massive bias for the Lobster Claws on the 987/997.1. Surprised that the first generation electric power steering in the 981 hasn't been mentioned. Probably the biggest flaw in an otherwise perfect sports car. PADM failure is also a thing but touch wood it doesn't happen to mine outside of the warranty period :)

a great topic. with less and less great open roads to enjoy and (IMO) less enjoyable track days, it leaves you wondering what else can you do with your money for enjoyment.
