I love this. I think The Complex could have been born from Overflow, using the original Ivan Beck as the template, his right hemisphere was the "Sundown Entry Wound", like an insane blast of x-ray radiation that killed him, but left a perfect scanned image. (See: Hiroshima Shadows)

If you look at the homothety/instancing idea, scaling around a point... what happens if you scale directly across the focal point? you get a mirrored copy. Listen to MidwesternTraumaLight, we hear Canon in D, the same tune from A Long Time Ago, but each note is played backwards. The melody itself is intact, but the percussive playback of each individual note has been reversed, mirrored. He's still Ivan, but... backwards.

The first copy would be the mirrored image, the one that replaced the now-dead OG Ivan, stealing his identity. Subsequent copies further along the scale vector would be those layered "exposures" that would evolve over time like cellular automata, until the Complex emerged from the noise.

Post Traumatic Amnesia represents the birth of Still Life Ivan, AND the Complex.

im obssesed with the backrooms because when I was in highschool I did mushrooms IN KELOWNA B.C. in 2001, and I fell asleep before the shrooms kicked in, and I had an HOURS long VIVID dream I still remember about being in the backrooms. Every time I turned around the theme changed, but it was always a low lit maze I couldnt escape. It started as an office building with all the lights off, then was a roman hedge maze, then a corn maze.....I remember constantly hitting my shins on furniture and a feeling of being followed.

Then I watched the BACKROOMS and it literally said on the screen KELOWNA SECTOR, and was identical to my mushroom induced dream trip.

In a deleted scene, a customer shows Clark a five legged stool that doesn’t sit evenly on the ground and asks what’s with it. Clark is astonished because it’s birch. He almost says out loud that he doesn’t sell wood that good until he realized that, when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade. He then explains that it’s actually a part of a new artistic movement where chairs are for luxury and for thinking about.
He grabs the stool because it’s better than what he actually sells

"Niche mathematical thing only Kane could come up with"

Ouch, that hurt my soul. Do people not universally know about Conway's game of Life?

Watching the actor’s reaction, it looks like he grabs it, confirms it’s a solid piece, and then has a little smile realizing it’s a nice piece. So I think he was being practical in trying to find evidence, then noticed he would be able to make some money off it as a bonus.

Kane is unattached to our world, he exists to boggle our brains and knows every single way to make parts of his stories make sense, but we have to dig to understand it.

That's what makes Kane's interpretation so interesting - it's more or less a "hard sci-fi" take, not just a woo-hoo monsters, but a full writting background where you understand where author extrapolated their interest in science to write their story.
You can see and understand the worldbuilding legwork

Such a great video, I was trying to figure out how Conway's Game of Life was a model for the backrooms and you really put it in the best way possible.

I also really get the feeling that the complex can extract certain things from brains but also not purposefully, as Kane said, and you explained that as well!

Really awesome contributions
