  My dad and I built a livestock corral in 1984. The posts that were set in concrete are still standing. The ones that were backfilled and tamped have long since rotted. I’m a believer in concrete.

  I installed 68 fence posts, 4x4 treated, in concrete in 2000, i replaced 3 of them last year, all the others still feel great.  The answer isn't NO wood in Concrete, it's about area/application/soil drainage etc.

  Before putting the wooden fence structure into the ground put Gardner Wet-R-Dri roofing cement all over the post on all 4 sides like example 2 feet where the post is going directly into the ground and let it cure for 30 days before putting into the ground with the concrete and make it sure it is really cured . I have done this for years and never had a rotten post plus I have added the roofing cement 2 inches above ground as well. Growing up I used to watch my grandfather  doing this exact same procedure and it never failed him. He never had any  rotten post

  I don't know much about this topic but I do know that my uncle Ralph hired a crew to put up a fence line on his farm back in the 70s. Trying to save money, he hired some guys who really didn't know what they were doing. After a few hours he checked their work and noticed a few of the posts only had dirt for support because the workers ran out of concrete. They thought they'd save a little time and money and skip the concrete part. When uncle Ralph saw this he hit the lead guy on the head with a shovel and all the other workers ran off. The sheriff came out and had to arrest uncle Ralph but everything turned out okay in the end.

  I set two 6x6 posts in holes with concrete about 10 years ago. I think i gave tbem an extra coat of the brush on copper treatment. I placed two hard smooth stones at the bottoms of each hole and set the posts on those stones to keep soil away from contacting the post bottoms before I secured them level (using 1x4 boards) and poured. They stand straight and firm today.

  I set a wooden mailbox in my yard when I moved in in 2010. &nbsp;It rotted away after 16 years of rain and water exposure at the end of my driveway where rain covers it when it rains. &nbsp;Its<br> lasted great.

  I vehemently believe it all depends on your soil and how well it retains and drains soil. There is a heavy difference between heavy clay, pure sand, and the in-between mix of loam.

  I agree completely. &nbsp;In concrete wood drying out, shrinks and creates gaps. &nbsp;The posts are initially kiln dried, then stacked with 1/4” slates between them, placed in a pressure vessel and flooded with solution. &nbsp;When they arrive at lumberyards they are still soaking wet.

  Perfectly okay to do,it depends upon your ground conditions &amp; the quality of the treated wood.
