I had a similar experience in Thailand when I went last November for 6 weeks. This is one of the most honest videos I've seen in awhile. There are several of us in the same boat and same age cohort rooting for you.

Went through the same thing. The secret is to get out and live - the world won't come knocking on you door. I got out there, joined clubs, and activities. Now I have an amazing network of friends - and the skill of getting them is something I can take anywhere!

Great video man - I know you are gonna succeed!

Great video I am also considering Thailand or Vietnam. Kind of in the same situation…knowing that my mind should be at peace before leaving.

I sold everything and moved to Thailand. I had never been here before, did not know anyone and here I am 2 years later and yes there are days when I am lonely.
Its not easy for myself a single 59 year old single women to date in SE Asia which does cause some loneliness at times.
BUT, I love it here!

Do you play Pickleball? I started playing about a year before I moved to Thailand 2 years ago, and wow have I met so many people here that I never would have met and become friends or acquaintances with. I now know well over 150 people, maybe 50% Thai native and 50% tourist/expat including Americans, UK, German, Canadian, Japanese, French, Danish, Norwegian, etc! It’s an instant ice breaker - you attend an open play session in Bangkok, Pattaya, Chiang Mai, Hua Hin or Vietnam - DaNang, Ho Chi Min City, Malaysia, etc. it is huge in Vietnam. Malaysia, Thailand and getting bigger in the Philippines. People get together afterwards for coffee, meals, drinks, whatever / so much fun, so healthy and an amazing way to meet people. It’s virtually an immediate social circle. Pickleball is incredibly easy to pick up, although getting good takes some time. You walk onto the court and you immediately have something in common with everyone of every nationality and it is do welcoming! Loneliness will be optional!

Different countries have vastly different levels of friendliness and social openness toward foreigners. Simply put, moving abroad as a foreigner—versus living as a local in your home country—is a massive reality shift.

It’s often a far more adaptable transition for introverts than extroverts. As an introvert, I thrive in my alone time, making it easy to walk away from people who don’t have my best interests at heart. I’ve left social gatherings immediately the moment something felt off, simply because I’m genuinely happier on my own.

Extroverts, on the other hand, thrive on connection—sometimes risking or compromising who they are just to find companionship. That compromise becomes dangerous in a foreign country where people might expect or exploit it.

I’ve visited insular societies so standoffish that even locals who spoke English seemed socially pressured not to interact with me. In places like that, foreigners aren't welcomed; they're merely tolerated.

Then there’s the issue of perception. In certain countries, you’re automatically viewed as having deep pockets, regardless of your actual financial situation, and expected to pay up. Frankly, that ‘transactional’ mindset is the most frustrating thing I’ve encountered abroad. If you land in a place like that, think twice before deciding to settle down.

For extroverts heading overseas, my advice is to choose a country where English is widely spoken, where locals are genuinely open and welcoming, and where people are socially wired to build real, honest friendships with strangers and don’t view foreigners as financial opportunities.

The last thing you want is to become someone’s meal ticket. There are those who will come right out, be upfront and ask you for money. They’re annoying, but not typically dangerous. What you need to worry about is creating relationships with people who are merely pretending to be your friend for ulterior motives. Exploitation rarely starts with a direct ask for cash—it usually starts with building a relationship or even marriage. But the underlying dynamic of seeing you as a financial gain remains the same.

Protect your peace and choose wisely where you choose to settle down. Better yet, choose to remain free, don’t settle down anywhere, and if a place isn’t working out, move on.

You obviously have that ability right now—to move on. So many people—for whatever reason—give up that ability, whether it’s by getting married, buying real estate, starting a brick and mortar business, or whatever.

Maintaining my happiness and the freedom to move on are two of the most important things to me in my life and it’s because I’ve been happy and free for most of my life.

I learned salsa and bachata dancing. There's usually socials everywhere you go. It's great for meeting people, even if you don't speak the language.

My life has had so many parallels with yours I feel like I know you. It sounds like you are on a great path - discovering yourself, figuring out where you want to go. It's refreshing to watch your videos because they so honest and open. I look forward to hearing about your future adventures.

The key is to accept who you are and where you are at in life. Don't rely on others to cure loneliness especially in a foreign country if you can't speak the local language. I prefer being alone anyway I am a hardcore introvert. I met some acquaintances on Tinder and get to meet someone new every week but when I am home it is good to have personal space and be alone.
