  great video Johnathan, took mine for a spin portable really starting to work around the unit well took the optima with me as well so did some 100w work to :) one other top tip the temp gauge is a cool feature :) especially on FT Great

  That rubber flap is definitely gonna be "down" and lost very quickly!  Really thorough review Jonathan. Still going to keep my 705 as it is all I need for this QRP form factor.  However Yaesu have obviously been listening (eg the separation cable magically appearing for the Optima).  Well done mate.

  I love it I have the optima and the versatility is brilliant. I've never stopped using since it arrived. Yes there are quirks but the receive audio and the reports I receive are excellent. I don't regret buying this rig at all

  I think Yaesu must add remote operation support on the FTX-1 to compete with the 7300mk2. SCU-LAN support would be fantastic.  On the optima, we could have two antenna ports and 2m/70cm. We’d lack the receive antenna input of the 7300mk2, but there are solutions for that.

  I have the optima and run it mobile with the ATAS in my truck. Used it to replace 891/500
