Gavin is one of those few drummers I could listen to forever, without ever getting bored. Dude’s master of his craft. And his fills are always sooooooo tasty. Very affable chap too!

It’s so lovely when you get the feeling the interviewee, is challenged, intrigued, inspired and very thoughtful about the well researched questions he is being asked.  <br>What a lovely exchange between you both.  <br>It is relaxing and stimulating to hear both of you.

I am glad I finally heard someone praise Steve Jansen! And who more appropriate than Gavin! Talk about underrated! This guys playing and feel is so outside but incredibly funky! And what a range of dynamics! Listen to “Pulling Punches” by David Sylvian. From that opening fill you know immediately that this is going to be something special. And the two distinct grooves he plays on the verses and bridge are so unorthodox but work. I remember the first time I heard it on a 12” at a band rehearsal some time in the late 80’s, I was absolutely blown away and didn’t even want to sit behind my drums after listening to that. Gavin mentioned “Taking the Veil” as well! Another beautiful performance as well as the rest of the Brilliant Trees album! David and Steve are brothers. This was in the era of Avalon by Roxy Music and Discipline by King Crimson. And you can definitely hear the influence on the latter song. Beautiful playing, beautiful production…This was an incredible period for real music played by real musicians! Now someone can create an album on their phone on their lunch break! I’m 64 now and can’t believe the direction “music” is heading in! At least we have the aforementioned, and many others from this beautiful time period that we can still listen to and still be amazed!
