  Also the original letter Ξ (from archaic greek and phoenician) it has a fourth line going through all lines in vertical. So its like double sided uppercase E. But they stopped using and made Ξ look like this.

  (<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sbdmekaTkGs&amp;t=244">4:04</a>) In old writing, ς went at the end of a compound in the middle of a word, but now it&apos;s σ in the middle regardless if it&apos;s in the middle or not. It did have that benefit of making discerning compounds just that little easier.<br>But the Latin alphabet also had ſ in the middle and s at the end, just that s took over. There were a number of extra rules for when to use s in the middle that differs by language. But it&apos;s just s now.
