I'm glad to see a wider coverage of Polish Ice Warriors on this channel. They arrived too late to conquer peaks in the summer, and they only challenge left for them was to try in the winter. Kukuczka's achievements are outstanding: not only being often the first to climb a mountain in the winter, but also creating many new routes and doing all of this in the alpine style, without large and expensive camps.

I ascended Britton Hill, the highest peak in Florida, and until this day I thank god I was able to survive. Do not even think of summiting without sherpas bringing reserve bottles of mosquito repellant.

It's called 'The Savage Mountain' because unlike Everest, this one actively TRIES to end you

I'm not surprised it was a Polish team who did the route. Poles have an incredible reputation for doing challenging and crazy routes all over the Alps. Ask anyone for their opinion, and you get admiration mixed with fear. Cheers.

I have done both the Polish Line, and the Magic Line, right here on YouTube without any supplemental oxygen 😊

Messner himself said that during this time, Kukuczka was most likely the best High Altitude Mountaineer in the world. The two of them were in a competition of who will be the first to climb all of the 14 peaks above 8000 meters. It took Messner 16 years and Kukuczka 8. However Messner started 9 years earlier and beat Kukuczka by 1 year.

The Polish Line on K2 is pure madness — steep, exposed, and unforgiving. Watching climbers attempt one of the deadliest routes on the world’s most brutal mountain is both awe-inspiring and terrifying. Absolute respect to anyone who dares to face it.

Jerzy Kukuczka did TWELVE 12, 8k(+) mountains by the time he did K2, some without supplemental oxygen…?! Absolutely unreal. That’s a rare instance where he actually deserve the “legend” title.

Jerzy Kukuczka was a brave and enterprising climber. He climbed new routes on K2, Makalu, Everest, broad peak, Gasherbrum I, Gasherbrum II, Nangaparbat, Manaslu and Shishapangma .
He was the first guy to climb dhaulagiri, Annapurna 1 and kenchenjunga in winter. Successfully summiting the most dangerous route on K2 (Polish line) was a great achievement. Nobody ever after that tried Polish line. So in many ways he was a pioneer.
To summarise a great climber and a brave guy who wanted to set new standards. He definitely belonged to the class of Messner who also tried new routes and set standards.
