  The sound of the engine brought back some fond memories. Back in the 80&apos;s I helped a mate get a MK1 Escort van back on the road. He had brought it second hand as a runner, but with faults, and we ended more or less rebuilding the whole van. The original 1300cc motor was trash, so he happened to have a rebuilt 1600 Mexico lump which we installed, combined with a 1300 sports box, Twin choke Webber Carb, pancake air filter and a 4 branch mainifold (which we got off a Mk1 capri at a breakers yard). Stripped some of the paint off the bodywork to deal with rust (new sills, and 1 new wing) and then hand painted Blue Smoorite paint, t-cutting in between each application. Installed security locks, an alarm and a banging Pioneer head unit with 2 speakers plus a small subwoofer installed in a gap between the passenger seat and the cargo bulkhead. Of course the van came with disc brakes front as standard so braking was not an issue. The top speed was only 110mph, but it accelerated like a rocket. Best bit was at light/ normal throttle sounded like any other van, but press the accelerator more and off it went - followed by this gorgeous induction howl and throaty exhaust note. And of course, everyone looked arround for a sports car only to see a little old blue van hustling along. Great memories. 😁

  My first car was a MK1 escort, it was 16 years old when i bought for £150 back in 1984. It was only a 1100L but I loved that old rust bucket. Cars back in the day where beautiful, now they are just boxes with wheels and computers.

  I had one in 1981. I had just joined a printing company as a sales rep and my company Vauxhall wasn&apos;t going to be delivered until I had been there for 6 months. The boss had a friend that owned a garage and I was given one of these as &quot;A clapped out Escort to tide me over&quot;. As a bit of an amateur mechanic when I got it home I gave it the once over and sorted the timing and a decent set of plugs and replaced a very clogged up air filter. As you can imagine after that I didn&apos;t want to give it back. It was awesome but to a lot of people it was just a clapped out Escort. How things change. 😊

  You are one Lucky girl being able to drive this. Born in 1965 my first car was a 1975 Morris Marina 1.8 super deluxe and it was 6 years old then. In 1984 almost bought a mk2 &nbsp;RS2000 in Black but my little baby which I wish I still had was a 1989 last of the Ford Fiesta XR2 in white loved that car so much..

  Lucky girl , I owed 3 RS,s blue , white and yellow . Great fun to drive and always turned heads . I got stopped by a copper and his first &nbsp;words were &nbsp;&quot; is it a real one &quot; obviously a petrol head as he asked if he could look under the bonnet. Lovely example , must be worth a few bob . Really enjoyed how much you liked it 👊
