We had “layaway “ at most stores when I was a kid. You had to pay off the item before you could get it.

When I hit that debt wall with 25k total I was so embarrassed and thinking I was alone! Talking to others made me realize I wasn't and the highest amount owed was a friend who had $140k from just partying! I buckled down and paid mine off 20 years ago and never carry revolving debt! Debt terrifies me!

We pay with cash and paper checks a lot here in Lancaster, PA. Most of the Amish stores do not take debit or credit cards! It is wonderful!

It took me 5 yrs to pay off 25k in credit card debt! That was 25 years ago! Wasteful spending on things long gone! Never again!
