I have to get my shellac plates digitized! The only issue is, I don't have the appropriate player for it, and I don't have the appropriate stylus for it. But I can improvize. I have a 33/45rpm turntable, TESLA NZC 030, which has a DIN-5 output for headphones. But that's irrelevant. What I can do is I could try to get a contact microphone, and create a makeshift stylus out of a stick tape acting like a membrane that holds a needle (I'll get it from a sewing kit that my mom keeps), and the contact microphone is literally just placed on the membrane itself. Because it's mono, I only need a single microphone. I'll also need a gyroscope that I could fix somewhere on a table, or on the turntable itself, and start digitizing: Connect the microphone to the PC, hit record for every side of every plate (I've got 3 plates, each has 2 sides), record at 45rpm, and then just speed the recording up to 78rpm (cuz that's the speed intended for a proper playback). Shellac plates are fairly old and brittle, they're from the 30s! I need to be extra careful when handling them.
