"Season 1 establishes the main characters Jay and Alex- And Tim, but we'll get to him later."
Everyone loves Tim.

I loved Tim's acting in the series, his was by far the best out of all the characters. During the arguments he sounded legitimately angry and especially during his breakdown at the hospital he encompassed the emotions of his character perfectly

This series slowly became The virgin Alex vs the Chad Tim and I still love it.

During the final fight The Operator teleportation actually saved Tim from getting shot more than once, so that makes me question who The Operator was really trying to help in that moment

Jay might actually be the dumbest detective I've ever seen so he's lucky it's endearing lol. Good review, subscribed

as a note on the "jumpscare-ey audio distortion", the guy who played jay (and by extention, edited the footage) had some untreated hearing issues through season 1, so it sounded fine to him

I actually liked Season 2 because it is fun to see how Jay slowly recovers and rediscovers what happened in the seven months. It's like looking how someone manages to fix the broken mirror that, in the end, gives a clear view on their reflection.
Sure, some entries are not that important for a viewer, but they are important for the character, and that I appreciate.

To be able to watch marble hornets when it was still an active production was truly a privilege. That era of YouTube was truly great

I may shine some light on the Operator's motives and why everyone was affected differently.

It is speculated that the Operator causes one's key personality traits to overflow:
Alex's later killing tendencies came out of his extremized guilt, urging him to remedy to what he thought was on him, even at the cost of his friends', his fiance's and even his own lives.
Brian's playful attitude led him to become the extreme puppeteer that is Totheark.
Tim's "lay low" life style and his deep connection with "his only true friend" Brian led him to become a grunt that followed Brian blindly.
Jay's obsession and regret is what led him to became the paranoid and aggressive person we later saw.
I may expand on it, but you get the point.
They may not all have worn a mask, but they all suffered the same fate, with their brains reacting differently though.

About the Operator then, in the series they clearly stated how it's basically a paranormal virus, so that's why he acts that way; a virus cannot spread if its hosts die, so whenever he thought it was necessary (i.e. that person unconsciously makes a great host) he simply stopped them from killing each other (Alex was saved a bunch of times, but Tim was too for example, despite all the characters from MH actively working to stop the Operator in their own contrasting different ways).

This series has no villains, apart from the Operator, just victims, linked together by a series of sad and unfortunate events and infected minds.
Anyway, great video, I basically agree on almost everything. I recently rewatched the whole series again with a bunch of friend who had never seen it and we all came to the same conclusions, but that said, for being a three men show with no budget and all, it still is really good and the best slender-arg out there.

Yes, we can look back at Marble Hornets and laugh at its low budget in retrospect but when I was a teenager? Watching this for the first time? It scared the hell out of me. I was actually convinced it was real. I couldn't sleep for days at one point. That's how much it terrified me. So a part of me will always respect it for that.
