Good catch noticing that the giant has a French accent. Andre the Giant was French. He was a professional wrestler at 7 feet 4 inches and 500+ pounds. By the time of this movie his body was breaking down from a combination of health issues caused by his gigantism, wrestling injuries and lifestyle.

The Wesley and Inigo sword fight took weeks for the actors to learn. They worked on it between scenes until the day of shooting.

When Inigo kills the six finger edges man, actor Mandy Patinkin used the emotion from his father's death from cancer, which happened not long before shooting began on the movie. When Inigo says, "I want my father back, you son of a bitch", he was talking to cancer and the emotion was very real.

Yes, Buttercup in the movie does not recognize The Man in Black (but you, the "omniscient" viewer, knows it's Westley). WE KNOW because we've already met him. HOWEVER, think a moment; if somebody was reading the book to you, you'd NOT SEE who Buttercup is talking with, you would only imagine who it could be. The MiB is still a mystery to anybody HEARING (or reading) the book's words. The grandson is not watching the movie, so is still in suspense.

"When I was your age, television was called books." The older I get, the more this line resonates with me.

This film is hilarious and great fun to watch it's based on a book written by William Goldman it was filmed in various locations around England and Ireland, Wesley (farm boy) is played by Cary Elwes who has been in another funny comedy called Robin Hood Men in Tights, but you may know him as Dr Lawrence Gordon from the Saw films,

And grandpa was played by Peter Falk whose most famous role was as the dishevelled detective Columbo, and Fezzik was played by the ex wrestler Andre the Giant, anyway really glad you are enjoying this film looking forward to part two.

The kid in the movie played by Fred Savage is also in the tv series The Wonder Years. It's about the time in USA when there was war between US and Vietnam. It's a funny 30 minute show that shows what it meant like to be in that period.

Men, or boys, are often turned off by the title, thinking it's a girly romantic film. They usually change their mind when they see it. I've not come across anyone who hates this movie.
