Hey history lovers 🎖
Lossless Audio Download Link: https://ko-fi.com/s/72324e5c18
Here's something most people don't know about "Dixie":
🎵 It was written in April 1859 by Daniel Decatur Emmett - a fiddler from Ohio, not the South. He wrote it on a rainy weekend in a New York boarding house, staring out at the cold and humming a single line he couldn't shake: "I wish I was in Dixie."
🎖 Two years later, on February 18, 1861, the song was played at Jefferson Davis's inauguration in Montgomery, Alabama. From that moment, a Manhattan minstrel tune became the anthem of a nation trying to leave the Union.
🕊 But here's the part almost no one remembers.

On April 10, 1865 - one day after Lee surrendered at Appomattox - a crowd gathered outside the White House to celebrate the end of the war. Abraham Lincoln stepped onto the balcony. Before he spoke, he turned to the military band and made an unusual request.
He asked them to play "Dixie."
The crowd fell silent, then erupted. Lincoln turned back to them, smiling, and said:
"I have always thought 'Dixie' one of the best tunes I have ever heard. Our adversaries over the way attempted to appropriate it, but I insisted yesterday that we fairly captured it."
Four days later, he was assassinated at Ford's Theatre.

It was one of the last public acts of his life.
More than 160 years later, the song still echoes across battlefields, reenactments, and memorial grounds - carried by history, remembered by both sides.

👍 If this moved you: Like, Subscribe, and share it with someone who loves history.

- Aura Vault | Music. The Confederates fought and died bravely for a cause they truly believed in. Hands off their Historic Monuments and Statues.

19 of my forefathers fought for the confederacy and fought for four long years on battlefields from Shiloh to Appomattox. Three of them were buried in mass graves. None of them owned slaves. Deo Vindice. Sic Semper Tyranis.

It doesn't matter what army- the Redcoats, the Confederates, the Germans in WWII, the Japanese or the Soviets- even though they are the enemy of my country, and therefore my enemy too- I can't help but see their bravery, their skill, their youth and their humanity. What a tragedy war is that makes one strong, brave young man kill another!
