I think you will like your apron. I’ve used one for years and found it, especially, helpful before I had a dedicated sewing space. Anywhere I was working, my tools were with me. There is, also, something about how it affects your mindset that sewing is now your focus, while it is on. Yours is very pretty and new; mine is well-used. You may have inspired me to make a new one. 😊—Deborah

New subscriber here. Enjoyed your apron make. I’ve worn an apron for years when I sew, but more to keep threads at bay off of my clothes. It does have pockets, but I wasn’t good at putting my tools back in a pocket. I’m pretty set in my ways with tools being in a tray to my right. Enjoying your Friday Sews!

Im just glad Im not the only one losing things in the sewing room! I could fill a small bucket with all the pins and needles that have disappeared around here. I think it’s just part of the nature of sewing because there are so many tools involved and we’re not concentrating on where we sit them. We are concentrating on what we do with them. Good luck with the dance costume that’s a big challenge, but I have no doubt you will fulfill it with no problem. I mean after all you came up with the human fabric wheel of fate so you are obviously very creative! Happy sewing, and have a great weekend!

Hi Jane and welcome to the Friday Sews Gang🙌🏻👏🙌🏻👏🙌🏻👏. I only sew in the sewing room / guest bedroom, and I never venture out to sew in the family room 🥴. I am glad that I don’t have carpet anywhere in the house 👍, and I can actually hear when a pin drops 🤣🤣. Isn’t it nice to customize your apron pockets to fit your needs? That’s the beauty of Sewing 🤩🤩. I wish you luck in the designing process for the dance costumes🍀☺️. Happy Sewing 💜💜

Ahh! The dance costume, alterations, creating! That was my life for many years! Now I'm on to garments and occasional Halloween costumes. When you said its what we do for family, I can totally relate😊 I'm enjoying your videos and look forward to seeing what becomes of your linen fabric.

I made the Tessuti apron as well, and I wear it while sewing…I often am wearing black pants/leggings and this keeps the threads from sticking to my cloy🙂👍🏻
And I have a granddaughter doing Irish dance too! She just moved into hard shoes this year, and has competed in her first feis. ☘️ She loves it!

Hi Jane! Loved your first Friday Sews!
The game changer for me in my sewing room has been my magnetic pin cushions. The rest of my tools are in the top drawer of my sewing desk which is open to my left (I'm lefthanded), and has kitchen drawer organizer trays in it. It doesn't take much for the magnet to 'grab' that pin from your finger tips, and if you do drop any you can just hover the pin cushion over the floor. An apron is an interesting idea, but knowing me, I would probably keep getting poked in the leg or ribs through the fabric by the sharp ends. 😂
Have a great week! ❤

I can never find things in the craft room. What a great idea to make an apron. I already have plans to make an apron to put my cleaning supplies in. I guess I’ll be making 2 apron. Thanks for the inspiration 😊

Great idea. My niece always uses an apron when she’s sewing. I have that pattern and I made one big pocket and planned to make a small one (for my phone) but the fabric I used was gifted to me by a neighbor- who had it gifted to her. I think it was upholstery fabric but it was a pink houndstooth pattern (imagine a 70-ish padded headboard) so I thought it would make a good apron. My regular scissors had a hard time cutting it and I had to use my old Kenmore sewing machine to get through the seams so I didn’t add another pocket.

If you have trouble with needles staying in the pin cushion, try using a piece of felt. Almost all the patterns for hand sewing (especially embroidery) use felt for needles. I bought a little store-bought needle book for my English paper piecing and it too has a felt needle holder.

Cute and useful apron! I would probably lose the whole apron, aprons are a firm part of my wardrobe and if I have a hot flash it's easy to peel off and leave in whatever room I'm in, haha. Have a look here at The Last Homely House and Kate's videos on Kantha quilts, she's a delight to watch . Your dilemma over choosing a pattern for your Irish linen sounds daunting. I can't even decide what to make with a few pieces of Korean linen I bought on Etsy. Loved your first Friday Sews and am very impressed you were able to fit it into your very busy schedule, thank you!
