  The movie is based on a novel based on the real-life account of a woman, Margaret Garner, who tried to kill her children rather than let them go back into slavery. Garner had 4 kids and managed to kill one before she was stopped. Toni Morrison came across the story and was inspired to write BELOVED which is about a former slave haunted by the ghost of her dead daughter. Also, Beloved&apos;s voice is froggy because of where Sethe cut her throat.

  She didn’t kill all her children. Just beloved. She knocked the boys out and spread Beloved’s blood on them to make it seem she killed them.

  Beloved was the spirit of her dead daughter come in the flesh to haunt her. She has the physical development of the age she would have been if she’d survived, but the mental and emotional development of the infant she was when she was murdered. That’s why her movements were so awkward and infantile — also why she wound up choking on her food during the argument with Paul D. <br><br>She wants to emulate and reclaim and punish her mother. She has the illogical rage of a small child but the strength of a supernatural being. She wants almost to consume her mother. She’s not completely evil — she’s imbalanced, suspended by a death that shouldn’t have happened, seeking a justice that her mind can’t comprehend. <br><br>The novel itself conveys Beloved more clearly, I think. But the movie IS very earnest in its adherence to Morrison’s narrative vision.

  She was jealous that he was touching her mother. Her whole reason why her spirit returned was because she wanted her mother.

  Beloved scares me to this day 😢 her voice, the way she came from the water, covered in flies!!! The red color in the house!!! Sex, loneliness!!! &nbsp;Along with the aftermath of slavery!!! It&apos;s very haunting!!!!😢

  You cannot watch this and NOT understand why she did what she did. Or feel the desperation of black women during that time of their children being taken from them and SOLD! I cry every time, love the commentary

  That scene was symbolic of when a child is robbed of their innocents. Beloved&apos;s death spiritually haunted the mother for many many years. so for that spirit to take on the physical form, at the age she would have been if she hadn&apos;t died, it not only caused her to transition from the pure mind of the child over into now thinking as a woman, evil lusting for a man, she told him to &quot;touch me down there&quot;;. .. the whole thing was completely nothing but evil.
