  Kudos to the University of Maryland for recognizing Hannah’s brilliance and being willing to nurture that rather than rejecting her because she didn’t check all the normal (waste of her time) bureaucratic boxes!

  What I love about mathematics is that it always requires honesty about truth. A mathematician that works on a problem for many years is forced to acknowledge that a younger person that has only studied the problem for a much lesser time can arrive at the truth of the problem by simply looking at it in a unconventional way.

  Hopefully, the universities that rejected her because she didn’t have a traditional degree, learn from this massive blind spot. It is likely that her unconventional autodidactic approach to math was precisely what set her apart.

  Just as she disproved Takeuchi, Hannah Cairo has disproved that formal education is the only way to high academic achievement.Nicely done.

  Impressive! One important take away: Parents should not overload their teenagers schedule. Getting bored is probably a necessary step for such geniuses to find their way! Good luck Hannah

  Love inspiring stories like these. University of Maryland's gain. Her rejection from other universities speaks volumes about bureaucracy vs outcomes and merit. I inwardly hope she dismantles some of the work done at those other schools.
