  I bought the WiiM Ultra Amp.  It is all I need.  Yet I don’t hear anything!    Hmmm… maybe I need some speakers?  🤔

  WiiM Ultra ($296 on sale now) + DIY Hypex nc252mp amplifier ($220 Parts Express with 10% off coupon + $144 GhentAudio for case kit) = $660 for a 2x150W @ 8Ω. Assembly is simple, just screw together and plug in cable wires. An external DAC can be added using the digital outs.

  I am curious , where would you feel comfortable having someone repair some of your equipment ? <br> There is a point of diminishing returns and some equipment can be replaced cheaper than having it fixed .<br> I assume you would ship some of your high end equipment back to the manufacturer !?

  The majority of us people that are not audiophiles at all are probably going to get something like the wiim amp ultra and be satisfied if ever &nbsp;thinking about getting passive speakers because this is something most of us are going to be appealing to.<br>Hey i would get something like this with 2 bookshelf speakers and subwoofer and thats it.<br>Because the reality is the majority of people out there are going to want a premium soundbar or even some nice powered speakers.

  At the beginning Billie Eilish and Finneas recorded hit songs with a $100 AT2020 microphone. Now Eilish uses a (?) $40,000 vintage Telefunken ELA M 251 and I’m sure that the rest of the signal chain reflects a similar increase in price. You could argue that Billie is a millionaire now so why not use boutique gear but this doesn’t answer the basic question of why change a winning formula just to use more expensive audio gear if cheaper gear works just as well? The AT 2020 is a great little mic but obviously there is something special to be had from a vintage Telefunken and that you just can’t get from a $100 piece of gear.
