Hermit Purple is the manifestation of Hamon, as confirmed by Araki. That’s his stand due to his mastery of Hamon

Stands don’t have to be humanoid, Joseph does have a “full stand” it’s just not humanoid, the reason he got that stand is because of his hamon, his stand, hermits purple, can conduct hamon to give him extended range and maneuverability, his stand is one of the more practical ones though, in later parts stands get some insane abilities, in part 3 there’s the punchy guy, the fire guy, the sword guy etc.... later on there’s stand that mimic real world items or even locations, stands that can only be used when very specific conditions are met, stands that exist only to boost the usefulness of real life items and even some stands that work by killing their users, some stands only manifest once their user dies, they end up getting really crazy

Part 3 is so good, I have a few things to say about it so far:
- Avdol’s theme is called Fire Shaman
- The track that plays when we see Star Platinum in this episode is called Demon’s Awakening
- DIO’s theme is called Dark Rebirth
- Hermit Purple is a Stand specifically suited for use with Hamon. That’s why it takes a form of Purple Thorns (which is also the name of Joseph’s theme), because it looks sorta like Purple hamon.

If the fishers had found DIO's coffin earlier and opened it during the day, they would just see a naked man shout "WRYYYYYYYY" and disappear

Fun fact: Joseph probally had hermit purple in part 2 already, that is why he can predict everyones moves en lines. Even in de part 2 op if you look really closely, at one of the Joseph silhouets you see the vines. Araki also confirmed this in an interview.
