  I've spent years studying the psychology of money, and this video accidentally revealed the most underrated wealth principle in America: proximity to physical infrastructure pays more than proximity to information. The lineman gets paid because when the grid goes down, the economy literally stops. Marketers, coaches, consultants — we're all downstream of the guy in the Faraday suit.   Ill say this now, to save those people some time. You absolutely DO NOT need to go to a private school such as SLTC for this career.<br>Get your Class A CDL with endorsements, go to the Local IBEW Lineman Hall, and sign the out of work books, and be prepared to recieve a dispatch call after a few months depending on where you live in the US. You may have to travel to another state if the books are slow.<br><br> While you wait, find out your jurisdiction for your state, such as SELCAT or SWLCAT, and sign up for either the Substation or Lineman Apprenticeship. Be warned, these two jobs are not the same, so do your research.<br>This job is NOT for the faint of heart. You will have to sacrifice much for this career, and you must be prepared to live on the road for over 4 years as an apprentice, you have NO say in where they send you. If they need an apprentice in LA but you live in Florida, then that is where you are going.

  <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rM8RGXoFmPY&amp;t=210">3:30</a> Yeah, if only you could just walk up to IBEW 1245 with nothing but line school and sign up for a &quot;book 1 apprenticeship&quot; lmao<br><br>Reality check: at 1245, you need a CDL to go with the line school, you start on book 3, you won&apos;t be an apprentice, just a groundman, and most of the time you&apos;ll get picked up by a civil crew, not line. Cal/Nev didn&apos;t even open up applications this year<br><br>To be an apprentice with any JATC, you must submit an application (flagger, osha card, cpr/first aid, algebra course completion required), take a test, do better on the interview than everyone else, and then wait. The wait time depends on how long it takes contractors to request more groundhands, as well as your performance on that interview. I applied back in December. I only got to interview 3 times since, even though I applied to 4 different JATCs. Still waiting on a call even with &quot;strong&quot; scores.<br><br><br>It takes forever to be an apprentice, and from what I can tell, even once you become an apprentice, you will be watched and tested the entire time. Starting with orientation, then all those tests, not pissing off your foreman, and you must fit in to the crew or you&apos;ll for sure have a hard time.<br><br>Being a lineman requires patience and humility, then there&apos;s the actual work itself...
