  Engine Engineer here. If only people knew how often the engineers get overruled by Marketing or Product Compliance or Legal. The thin oil viscosities are NOT chosen by engineers. They are dictated by compliance needs, Then we engineers have to figure out how to keep the engine alive with the thin oil we are forced to use. Ask any engine engineer what oil viscosity he or she is using, and it's almost never what is recommended in the owner's manual. Because we know how the sausage is made.

  When Mobil One was first sold I ran Mobil One in my 1984 Nissan Maxima. I changed to Red Line at about 200,000 miles. As the car has gotten older and is driven less, I have gone to less expensive "Full Synthetic" oil. I still have the 1984 Nissan Maxima with over 429,000. After this and a few Lake Speed videos I may go back to Red Line for the next 429,000 miles. Thank You for the vid. Glad to see Lake Speed's comment.

  Facing this harsh reality, I went down from 7,500-mile-oil-change, to 5,000-mile-oil-change. At least my 2 engines get fresh "synthetic" oil more often.

  Research has been done. Dealers use whatever oil they can buy in barrel the cheapest. Manufacturers use whatever will hit those EPA efficiency standards. Technicians will use whatever oil decides to share those kickbacks with them.
