Fascinating. I know about half of these by name without having seen them. Fascinating to think how many good films slip past us. Thanks for shining a spotlight on them.

A while ago I started revisiting films from the 70s, the « New Hollywood » was my starting point. Your list is very interesting because I don’t know anything about most of them. I only know about two of the list, the #20 with Connery I probably saw 2 years ago (superb role for the ex-Bond) and #19, by John Ford that I saw a very long time ago. Thank you so much for these titles! Cheers from Canada!

What an amazing list, most of which this cinema buff has never seen. Can not wait to find these gems. Feels like the wildly misunderstood but ultimately thought provoking Alice Sweet Alice is another that may fit this group.

The offence is probably Connerys best performance.

LITTLE MURDERS may be great in general, but to me the wedding scene is just about perfect.

you can include all angelopoulos 70's work here as bonus ... or vice versa

Terrific list! THE GROUNDSTAR CONSPIRACY has a twist ending that will turn your head. THE JERICHO MILE strikes the same note of freedom as THE LONELINESS OF THE LONG-DISTANCE RUNNER. THE KING OF MARVIN GARDENS begins with Nicholson's chilling line, " I promised to tell you why I never eat fish".

Stacey Keach appears to have been prolific in the 70s

Wes Uhlman, who was the mayor of Seattle at that time, made a cameo appearance, getting his pocket picked.

Thank you for reminding us what a great decade of cinema the 70s was. I noticed you had an actor Stacy Keach who starred in two cult classics you mentioed End of the road and the travelling executioner you could add Fat City and Watched
