  The Friends of Eddie Coyle was the first R Rated movie I saw. My best friend’s sister took us to see it and at 11 years old, we couldn’t wait to tell everyone at school that we’d seen an “R” movie over the weekend. Great memories.

  These are monumental films in their own ways, with enormous performances. People need to open their minds, let movies inform as well invite escape.

  Sorcerer 1977 and Electra Glide In Blue 1973 are the two movies I’m so happy i found as an adult. I wouldn’t have appreciated either as a teenager or even in my twenties and maybe even thirties. I’m 56 and watched both in my late forties. Both are a masterclass in film making and should be seen by everyone who’s ever had a love affair with cinema.

  The Friends of Eddie Coyle was authentic partly because it included near suburban locations like the Red Line station in Quincy, the train station in Sharon, the bank in Dedham, Memorial Drive in front of MIT(my alma mater). When I was a student, I went and watched the Bruins from the balcony just like Eddie did, drinking low end beer. In recent Boston movies, seemingly everyone lives and seemingly everything takes place under the Tobin Bridge. Eddie Coyle lived in Quincy.

  Ours was a TV (and for me at least,) and movie generation. I was born in 1958 and watched television when I wasn't outside with neighborhood kids, or playing sports. Book reading and music was another frequent activity indoors.. But, even as a young boy, Dr. Strange love, or WC Fields, or Butch Cassidy, or the wild bunch, or easy rider, etc etc etc., were great experiences. At age 67, such memories are a wonderful thing to possess. I don't live in the past, but I certainly appreciate it.

  &quot;Straight Time&quot; is one of the finest movies I have in my personal collection of DVDs. &nbsp;Harry Dean Stanton is wonderful as a professional thief. &nbsp;He is shot and killed after a jewelry store robbery goes wrong. &nbsp;As he dies, the position of his fallen body and the look on his face remind me of the dying of Robert Kennedy Sr.. &nbsp;Brilliant insight. &nbsp;I can&apos;t say enought about the beautiful Teresa Russell. &nbsp;This movie is worth the watch.
