Why not start the test at 8am to show the full benefit of the tracker? Starting at 11am is a big handicap

I think we can all agree that "limited by space" means my spouse doesn't want the backyard to look like some dystopian wasteland.

My opinion is that you'd be better off putting the money for the trackers in to more fixed mount panels. You got 3400 Wh from 2 fixed panels. You spent $500-700 on trackers to get another 200-300 Wh. That money could have bought another 6-8 panels and yielded an additional 6800-10200 Wh. It's not even close. I can't see many situations where space would allow for one and not the other.

We have 18 panels on a fixed ground mount system. Zero maintenance. System is 4 years old and has performed flawlessly. We live off grid and remote. 35 miles outside of a small town.

At the current price of panels, I believe trackers only make sense if we are extremely limited in space. Otherwise, simply investing in more ground-mounted panels is much more worthwhile, or even playing with the angles — some facing more east, others more west.

Your test would have vastly different results if the panels had clear sky from sunrise to sunset. In my ground mount, I only start getting usable solar (over 100w from my 3kw system) for 2-3 hours after sunrise and 2-3 hours before sunset. Getting those extra four hours will make a much larger difference.

That’s a nice demonstration, thanks. Looking in the background I am reminded of my CAT 312 excavator which I used for 7 years on my 10 acres of land. After a while it sat a lot so I got rid of it but I could use it now.
