  Man this is a lot 😩 inductions sounds like so many things can go wrong and can quickly begin the cascade of interventions

  So many sad stories on here. It must be unlikely but... it's not hopeless. I was induced at 37 for ICP. I had a balloon inserted the night before and it got me to 3cm by the morning. I got pitocin and contractions started shortly after. They weren't much harder than my first spontaneous unmedicated labor so I passed on the epidural and just like that  my induction baby was born vaginally without any pain medication 4 hours after arriving at the hospital.

  Can we please repeat the part where you said  getting oxytocin turned down/off is an option. I never knew that was an option and my last labor was an absolute train wreck. Can we please normalize having care providers informing patients about these options?

  THANK YOU so much for letting people know we can request the pitocin be turned down/off! I was induced with my 4th and it was AWFUL. Just way too much. My body likes to space contractions out when I&apos;m in natural labor and they&apos;re very strong and effective but I get 3-5 minutes between them for the entiee time. With pitocin I had such strong, long contractions that happened so rapidly I think they were less than 30 seconds apart. I was absolutely writhing and screaming in pain and NOT coping well. I wish I would have known I could tell them to stop it. I&apos;m pregnant with my 6th and doing my first <b>planned</b> hospital birth, which means I&apos;ll most likely be induced since my babies are always born past 42 weeks and no OB is going to be okay with that. I&apos;ve been really anxious about it but hopefully my cervix will be ready and I can just get a kick start with pitocin and then let my body do its own thing.

  My induction was a nightmare.<br><br>I wasn&apos;t going into labor naturally and I was continuously pressured into an induction but I told them I wanted to try to make it to 42 weeks before making that decision. They were concerned because I had a two vessel cord but baby passed the stress test and I just really wanted her to come on her own but they pushed me to schedule an induction at 41 weeks but I asked them to at least give me the weekend and to let me try a membrane sweep the following Monday. Obviously the membrane sweep didn&apos;t work and I went in the next night for the induction.<br><br>I also want to mention that when I went in for a membrane sweep, I asked my OB to tell me my bishop score if they were going to induce and he said that he didn&apos;t believe that the bishop score actually told him anything useful but humored me and gave me a half-ass score that didn&apos;t give me the full picture and then dismissed me. So that was cool.<br><br>When I finally went in to get induced at 7pm, they used Cervadil and inserted it around 9pm. I had one very mild period feeling contraction in the beginning and then it just skyrocketed out of nowhere. The contractions were off the charts and were lasting way too long with hardly a minute break in between to rest. This went on for 7 hrs before they allowed me to have an epidural because I wasn&apos;t &quot;dilated enough&quot;. They tried fentanyl before to help with pain management but it did absolutely nothing for me. I was in excruciating pain and exhausted. For some reason the night nurse didn&apos;t think to remove the Cervadil and I didn&apos;t even know it was an option. They just said that if it failed, then they&apos;d have to move onto Pitocin. I wasn&apos;t told exactly conditions classified it as failing.<br><br>I finally got my epidural maybe around 4am when I was about to break 4 cm. Got some much needed rest for a few hrs and my day nurse came in and saw the Cervadil hardly progressed me at all. She immediately suggested we remove it and let my body recover and talk to my OB about the next step... Pitocon. <br><br>The rest of my labor wasn&apos;t super eventful other than the fact I still wasn&apos;t progressing even with Pitocon and my doctor trying to pressure me into breaking my waters but I absolutely refused. It eventually broke on its own 2 hrs later. 🤷🏻‍♀️ When the night nurse came back there was a time around 7cm where she decided to bump up my Pitocon dose without telling me or my husband. The pain was coming through the epidural and I could not handle it. I was in tears and was just so confused at why my epidural was all of a sudden no longer working. She later came back into the room to then tell me she upped the Pitocon dose to try to speed things up but decided to drop it back down because it was stressing the baby out... Like wtf dude?<br><br>It almost got to the point where I was going to need a c section because my progress had stalled at 9cm. Then my OB shows up and stretches me to 10cm and says, &quot;Let&apos;s have a baby!&quot; 😭 Turns out baby&apos;s head wasn&apos;t in the right position to encourage further progress. 🙃<br><br>I will say that the night nurse was a real help during the birthing process. She talked me through the entire thing and helped me with breathing and pushing so I love her for that. I&apos;d just rather she not handle my medication...ever again. Had my baby girl at 41 weeks and 5 days.

  I&apos;ve had three inductions here in the states. Each time I came in at 5:30 in the morning. After monitoring, IV fluids, and other check in procedures, I was started on pitocin about 6:30 am. I then had my babies within 6-12 hours. I stayed at the hospital the entire time. I wasn&apos;t given any medication to take at home. I was not dilated (maybe a 1) prior to induction. But they were pretty easy going.

  This is SO informative. Thank you so much. I’ve had two quick vaginal deliveries and was debating induction for my third as I’m so scared of an accidental home birth. Hospital is 30 mins away and my second labour was only about an hour-ish long. Definitely thinking I’ll just wait for things to happen on their own again after watching this!

  3 inductions and all were with pitocin. Sharing what they did incase any moms are curious what that could look like. <br><br> First , &apos;elective induction&apos;. Went to hospital at 38 weeks 6 days. I was 1 cm dialated and like 10% effaced. They placed pill at cervix (vaginally) and it felt weird but did not hurt. They started cervix pill mon morning 9/10am, pitocin tuesday morning at 5 am and broke water at 8am. Active labor followed by 10 am and i got the epidural around 10:30am. son was born at <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrlGdJ6XZuo&amp;t=998">16:38</a> pm. <br><br> Second &apos;elective induction&apos; I was 39 weeks 2 days and 3 cm dialated and 80% effaced. They had me come in at 9 am, (no cervix pill needed) started pitocin at 10 am, and got epidural shortly after. active labor by 11 am and gave birth at <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrlGdJ6XZuo&amp;t=928">15:28</a> pm to our daughter. <br><br>3rd &apos;medical induction&apos; (8 weeks ago as a high risk pregnancy) induced at 38 weeks 2 days. Arrived at hospital at 38 weeks 2 days at 2 AM. Cervix was 1 cm and doc and nurses kept disagreeing if I was 60% - 20% effaced lmao. (Apparently baby position can cause discrepancy-supposedly😅)<br>Anywho, Started oral cervix pill around 9/10 am, and had water vroken around 11 am. Started pitocin around noon or 1 pm. I got epidural shortly after. Active labor followed by around 2 ish pm and gave birth at 7:44 pm. <br><br>My kids are 17yo, 15yo and 8 weeks old. First and third had epidural that had me completely numb from waist down. But third had a strange effect where i could feel nothing on my left but the top right.of my stomach still had all sensations lol. Middle baby was a &quot;failed epidural&quot; and I felt everything, there was a lot of pain and pressure but the epidural still took that sharp pain away... dont know how to describe otherwise. Basically, it still helped lol.<br><br>Not being able to feel anything made pushing harder with First. Took several times to just figure out IF I was pushing. Second, my body just took over and she was out in 2 pushes. Third, having that area on my stomach where I could still feel was SUPER helpful and I was able to push with contractions cuz I could still feel them. <br><br>I tore (2nd degree) with first and third that had amazing epidural but didn&apos;t tear AT ALL with my second where my body chose when and how to do things when epidural didn&apos;t work properly. Just think that&apos;s an interesting fact. 😅<br><br>Anywho, induction is NOT always bad. I feel like all I see are horror stories online and I wanted to share that there are mums like me who didn&apos;t have bad experience with induction, medical or elective. ❤

  An induction that was not mentioned that has worked on me twice was using a breast pump. I went to the hospital for an induction from my midwife using a hospital breast pump intermittently. I went into labor naturally with only a breast pump. I was already soft and at a 3 both times all my body needed was a natural push. Breastfeeding causes natural contractions.

  All of these is scary<br>..😢 hope I can deliver naturally...37 weeks tomorrow. Gestational Diabetes demands induction at 38 weeks 😅
