All of the houses I knew in the 1940s had some kind of furnace. I do remember that my uncle and aunt had a cold burning furnace, and that my uncle would go down and bang the fire every night. My parents has radiators. I remember trying my snow encrusted mittens on a radiator.

I have my great-aunt & uncle’s ration books. She had saved it all these years! Even the little plastic “coins” she received as change. It’s fascinating to read the book and instructions on how to use your ration books! My grandfather  poured Cane Syrup in his coffee. They lived in La where the cane syrup was made. The Cane Syrup wasn’t rationed like sugar was so you used what you had! Both of my grandmothers had young children during the War. My maternal grandmother told me how hard it was to have nutritious meals for growing children when you had virtually nothing! This is a fascinating video, Oliver!! Brings back many warm memories of my grandmothers and how creative they had to become. I’m very proud of them and what they endured. They came out of the other side with healthy teenagers and happy husbands! BTW, my maternal grandmother’s name was Evelyn! 😃 Thank you Oliver for another great video! ❤
