I watched the interview of Yang Bing with the Sony manager in a Chinese channel. Yang mentioned they were exploring the type of the game style. They tried open world, linear story, arpg and etc. He confessed two years of the works were ditched because they have to change the game style.

Yang also mentioned he has no clue how to lead a project like this at the beginning. And I believe he had been struggle for this role for many years since he was a developer. He though all he need to do is making the video showed on 2016 into a game, but the reality is way much complicated. Usually, the game project started with the story and background because it is like a anchor of the art, design and enemy. The way he approached is completed opposite and he said it was not the best way to make the game.

Because the game has developed so long, they can't 'remake' everything to match the standard of game in recent years. That is why a lot of aspect of this game feels 'old'. He also stated the previous demo fighting with the blond guy looks like the game was close to complete but he was still not sure about the direction of the game. That means the final product was developed since the year of that demo came out. The rest of the 10 years are just exploring, error and trail, building a studio and etc.

In conclusion, an amateur's ambition project was not lead and supervised properly ended up into a developing hell. Yang needs to take responsibility for the lead and horrible decision making for this project. But Sony, the sponsor of the project, who supervised Yang needs to take the major responsibility of this for lack of discipling and coaching Yang. They give Yang way to much freedom and lack of interfering, advising, or coaching when he is out of the track due to Yang's lack of leading a large project.

Oh, the old NPC needs to talk to me but they move quicker than my walk speed but slower than my run speed... makes me feel young again.

So, in summary: It feels like a decent AA game that was a bit rushed, except it was in development for over a decade.

I respect the story of this game's development and I'm glad they were able to see it through. Shame it didn't come together the way we'd hoped. I'll play it whenever they inevitably put it on PS Plus though.

This feels like one of those 6/10 games you see on PS3 back in the day (Knights Contract, Lost Souls Zill, Genji: Days of the Blade, etc).

The advantage of these videos over a downloaded demo is, in this case, the observation of tedium and repetition isn’t something you might notice playing a single level or limited time. Thanks Gameranx

100% accurate review - I got it yesterday and what they’re saying in the video is very true. Good review.

Hoo boy...that bit about the constant battles I felt that way in the demo, I was impressed I was getting that much out of it but I felt like I couldn't just look around at the scenery for a bit, or take in the world a certain way before getting dragged into another one. But, I do at least want to see what the story is about though, hopefully I can make it- without getting burnt out. Great review video as always.

This game gives me the impression that a once passion driven project by one person was then consumed by external influences and felt pressured to further expand the scope, and size, of the game until it no longer became a passion project - but a product to be sold and made a profit, and nothing else. Seeing how this is technically the official second entry of a big game coming from China after Wukong, I can only imagine the level of pressure they were in.

The fact that there are not other reviews out yet from well known reviewers and journalist teams is a sign of something. Also all this unjustified hate towards this review where Falcon just points out pros and cons of the game without scores etc shows that the toxicity of some extreme fanboys or perhaps guys with a personal interest on the game is way out of proportion to constructive criticism or will of an open expression of opinions and their reason for being so aggressive towards the review shows that the hateful ones is them and not the review. Just chill everyone. You like it as it is, great you are gonna have fun with the game right now! You don't like it as it is then don't buy it or don't suggest it to somebody for an early purchase yet or ever. Acting like hateful beings on somebodys opinion and review that just tries to be objective is the real problem and one of the reasons we sometimes miss the opportunity to have great games based on our feedback. Lords of the Fallen was at first down voted but after the fan base feedback and the actions on behalf of the Devs the game became great! That says it all.... Anyway, thank you Gameranx once more for stating your opinion on this while other are still backing off or...
