  Das aber ist genau die Tonsprache Chopins: die Balance in Ausdruck und Form ohne zu übertreiben oder einen Parameter zu sprengen. Chopin ist mehr Klassiker als Beethoven, der in den späten Werken Form und Ausdruck extrem gesprengt hat und mit einer Kühnheit wurde er nicht nur romantisch, sondern antizipierte ganze Epochen, die nach ihm kamen. Das ist das Singuläre und Heroische bei ihm und zeigt seinen einzigartigen Genius. Schubert ist auch kein eigentlicher Romantiker, sondern klassikbezogen.

  Where on EARTH can one find a copy of this for home use!? I simply must have  a copy of this! And he is so fluent in Spanish that he makes me ache to hear him live again. I had the enormous fortune to do so when I was young and living in London. AMAZING documentary!!! Not available in South America and he visited   Buenos Aires so many times in the 40's. It is unfair that our TV cable networks don't ever broadcast this!

  ein Multi Talent - ich liebe seine Interpretationen - das ist kein Maschinen Spiel wie von vielen jungen Musikern heute absolviert wird, keine Geschwindigkeits Olympiade - eine Tatsache, die ich bei Glenn Gould auch nicht so gut finde, aber als Bach Liebhaber kommt man um Gould nicht herum ;- ) &nbsp;Grüße an Alle

  But already literature of the classical epoch implied the title &apos;Ballade&apos;, think of Goethe &apos;Zauberlehrling&apos; or Schiller &apos;Die Bürgschaft&apos; or &apos;Handschuh&apos;. I think Rubinstein wanted to say that harmony and formal structure are based on the classical music. think of the beginning, the orchestral entrance, of both concerti, very classical i think. its important to difference between in German &apos;Romantizismen&apos; and the music of the romantic epoch. Bach composed also romantically but in a mystic sense.

  Fascinating - what a rich and fulfilling life Rubinstein had. I must listen to more of his recordings of Spanish music. However, I do find his opinion that Chopin was &quot;not Romantic&quot; rather strange and Rubinstein seems to support this opinion very selectively. However, thankfully, his playing of Chopin is very romantic (though never over-done)!
