They Scanned Beneath the Easter Island Heads — What's Down There Was Never Meant To Be Seen

If you know one thing about Easter Island, it's the heads. They are not heads. Under the grass, every one of those faces continues — shoulders, arms, hands with long fingers curled toward the stomach. And on the backs, where nobody standing on that slope has ever been able to see them, there are carvings. In this video I take you down into one of the excavation pits at Rano Raraku and show you what came out of the dirt alongside the statue: thirteen carved canoe motifs and a flying fish on one buried torso, nearly two pounds of red pigment, a post hole cut into bedrock that still held the socket for a tree trunk, a rope guide carved into solid rock, paved floors, and human burials. I also deal with something nobody else covering this seems willing to say. There are videos with half a million views each claiming an AI reanalysed these statues. I went looking for that study. It does not exist. So I'll show you what technology has genuinely been used on that island instead — laser scanning, drone photogrammetry, and a statistical study that found the coastal platforms track the island's fresh water. The burial was caused by sediment washing down the slope, not by anyone burying them deliberately. Statue weights are estimates that vary between sources. How the moai were transported, and what happened to the island's population, are both genuine ongoing debates among archaeologists.
