If you're interested to know what I DO recommend (as opposed to what I don't use), check out the security checklist you can download for free here: https://www.allthingssecured.com/checklist

The most aggravating form of 2FA has to be the codes you get through SMS and email. Not only do I get forced to use two of the most vulnerable ways of communication, but there's no choice to turn them off or even use an authenticator app.

In addition to the fraud protection you already mentioned, I think people forget that in order to charge a credit card you need to have some kind of merchant account. And even if this merchant account was somehow illegally obtained, certainly its going to be shut down and transactions reversed in short order since all the complaints would get the account flagged. Someone close enough to scan your wallet could almost as easily just steal it and cut out the middleman.

Anti-virus programs can sometimes help with malware and also with phishing, which the elderly are very vulnerable to.

Regarding a VPN and public wifi; I live in a rural county with only one at&t tower, for example that goes down often. Complete cell coverage generally is not available in most rural areas/ counties in my state or, only select providers cover select counties entirely. Plus, there is the terrain issue as well.
I find myself having to connect to a public wifi often because of this very real issue. That's where I find having the VPN enabled is a necessity.
For most people living in larger metro areas, sure! Complete cell coverage is generally not an issue.
Just a thought, from experience.

Mostly sensible, for myself I do use TOTP, but as a recovery option. So if I were to lose both my FIDO keys, I still have a way in.

The whole incognito thing blows my mind. They explained from day one what it does and does not do, people just didn't pay attention.

I run a VPN 24/7 on my phone and computer, regardless of whether I'm at home, the store, on Wi-Fi or cellular.
