  My everyday driver is a 1997 FZJ80. &nbsp;This 25 year old SUV is truly one of the best long range off road vehicles ever made. &nbsp;Very simple routine maintenance is really all that is required to keep these running strong.<br><br>Biggest mistake people new to the 80 series make is they don’t do a baseline maintenance/repairs when they buy one. &nbsp;These are 25-30 year old trucks. &nbsp;Things wear out no matter who makes them. &nbsp;Most of these have 200,000-300,000 miles on them. &nbsp;They will need a bottom end engine rebuild soon so you had better have a plan for that if you are going to own one.

  These really are great rigs, I drive my 97 every day! And love it! Keep up with pm,s and they live long and go anywhere.

  A 1997 should have had an A343F paired with the 1FZFE (still a sufficiently beefy transmission, but not as beastly as the A442F found in earlier FZJ80&apos;s). The example you&apos;re presenting is a little rough but well within the realm of being worth saving. I love my 1997 LX450. This is going to be a fun project for you guys.
