Black Sabbath formed in Birmingham England in 1968 by guitarist Tony Iommi, drummer Bill Ward, bassist Geezer Butler and vocalist Ozzy Osbourne. considered the grandfathers of heavy metal, the band was originally called Earth they needed to change their name because there was another band with the same name, there was a cinema opposite where they practised that was showing the 1963 Italian horror film Black Sabbath, while watching people line up to see the film, Butler noted that it was "strange that people spend so much money to see scary movies". Following that, Osbourne and Butler wrote the lyrics for a song called "Black Sabbath", song's ominous sound and dark lyrics pushed the band in a darker direction, inspired by the new sound, the band changed their name to Black Sabbath in August 1969, and made the decision to focus on writing similar material in an attempt to create the musical equivalent of horror films.
At the age of 17, Iommi lost the tips of the middle and ring fingers of his right hand (his fretting hand, since he is left-handed) in an industrial accident on his last day of work in a sheet metal factory. He was planning to quit his job that day but his mother persuaded him to go in for the final day, when the cutter incident occurred. Iommi described how he "was told 'you'll never play again'. It was just unbelievable. I sat in the hospital with my hand in this bag and I thought, that's it – I'm finished. After the injury, Iommi's factory foreman played him a recording of famous jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt, which encouraged him to continue as a musician. As Iommi later wrote:
Iommi's foreman said, "Listen to this guy play", and I went, "No way! Listening to someone play the guitar is the very last thing I want to do right now!" But he kept insisting and he ended up playing the record for me. I told him I thought it was really good and then he said, "You know, the guy's only playing with two fingers on his fretboard hand because of an injury he sustained in a terrible fire." I was totally knocked back by this revelation and was so impressed by what I had just heard that I suddenly became inspired to start trying to play again. I made some plastic fingertips for myself. I just persevered with it.

Fun fact: the drummer, Bill Ward, uses the fat side of the sticks when he plays. He tore up many skins!😎😁

Bill Ward is the drummer. Please please please react to War Pigs live in Paris 1970. Bill Ward puts on a masterclass. They all do but he’s a standout. Geezer Butler the bass player gets overlooked too often. He rips on bass and wrote most of their lyrics. Tony Iomi the guitarist cut his fingertips off in an industrial accident and it lead to his unique style. And Ozzy is Ozzy. They were a jazz blues banned named Earth but noticed people like horror movies so why not horror music. Black Sabbath is the name of a Bella Legossi horror movie. I also highly recommend the first song from their first album also named Black Sabbath.

The 1970 live in Paris version will blow you away. The drumming by Bill Ward in that live version is 10x better than the studio version, which is great too.

The sped-up ending is call "Luke's Wall. It's meant to symbolism the war's observer going mad from the chaos of the war.
