This is Study #15, the conclusion of Genesis, before we open Exodus. In this Bible study, we follow Jacob's family settling in Goshen under Pharaoh's friendly agreement, the famine that empties Egypt of money and then of livestock and then of land, Jacob's blessing of Ephraim over Manasseh, the long poetic blessings over the twelve tribes, Jacob's burial at Machpelah, Joseph's mercy toward the brothers who sold him, and Joseph's own death and burial in an Egyptian coffin. Reading through the Ecumenical Method of Biblical Study — Spirit, Truth, and Love — we ask whether Israel's slavery in Exodus began not with military force but with years of debt; what Judah's blessing means when it speaks of the vine, the donkey's colt, and garments washed in wine; why Joseph answered his frightened brothers with "am I in the place of God?"; and why the list of tribes in Revelation 7 drops Dan and Ephraim and adds Manasseh — the son Jacob himself put second.
