  PAF inducted A-5s at a time when Mirages were not only very expensive but also unavailable as most airforces were using them as their frontline fighter. At the same time there was a grave risk of massive Indian armour onslaught &nbsp;in 1980s, thus, A-5-III did provide a reasonable ground attack punch in the 1980s. During 1990s, after Gulf War-1, many countries started replacing legacy Mirages with F-16, F-18 , Mig-29 and Mirage 2000 4th generation aircraft and PAF got many options to acquire Mach 2 Mirages which were PAF&apos;s love. So we see in 1990s we induct 40 + Mirage IIIO from Australia , 40 &nbsp;+ Mirage VF from France, 10 Mirage IIIEL from Lebanon etc. As PAF received squadrons of Mirages, it upgraded its entire Mirage fleet of 150 plus aircraft (barring Mirage VPA) and focussed on JF-17. Thus, A-5s were no more needed and were retired in 2010 I suppose

  My 3 cousin were PAF pilots and I went to most of the airbases in Pakistan. I remember one of my cousins used to tell me that if you have to eject from A5, it&apos;s was a sudden death. He never said anything thing good about this Jet. He later flew F7p and mirages. 1 of my cousins was among the first few pilots who flew F16 and brought them to Pakistan from US in 80s

  Very honest and to-the-point analysis. I loved this aircraft in my childhood back in the 80&apos;s due to its peculiar shape alongside F-6 (Mig19) in Drigh Road Karachi at Faisal Airbase. Beautiful memories.

  A-5 was a decent attack aircraft which served its purpose. it filled the gaps where needed at the time. If called upon duty It would have fulfilled its role well.<br>Flying is never easy

  A5 was a stop gap plane for the PAF until something came along<br>It was built during the chaos of cultural revolution so you can imagine the quality control was not up to scratch
