To be clear, the Carabinieri were historically part of the Italian army. Currently, they are separate branch of Italy's armed forces. Contrary to the belief of America's media, the Carabinieri are not "paramilitary." While the Carabinieri are the national gendarmerie of Italy and primarily carry out domestic and foreign policing duties as one of Italy's main law enforcement agencies, the Carabinieri are a military force and the fourth branch of the Italian Armed Forcesand and regularly participate in military missions abroad. Carabinieri units have been dispatched on peacekeeping missions abroad, and in 2003, 12 Carabinieri were killed in a suicide bombing on their base in Nasiriyah, near Basra in southern Iraq, in the largest Italian military loss of life in a single action since the Second World War.

The problem is that a huge chunk of the Italian population lives in a pacifist bubble.
They're against military spending, they ignore how valuable the defense sector really is and how it impacts research, innovation, cooperation and employment.
They hate the idea of deploying our military to defend our national interests or project Italy's capabilities.
For these people talking about defense equals starting a war.

30:46 And that is why Meloni is talking about not only Italys continued security.. but also tries to combine nato millitary spending with factories, production and creating jobs inside Italy… unemployment is another security factor in itself for a country..!

Native language speaker, here.
2:00, brother, I gotta commend both attempt and result, most foreigners I know who tried saying Italian words would've folded like laundry at "pluriennale" xD (and, as someone with a stammer, I often have issues myself saying words like that)

We actually are buying 12 f35A now, mainly for the nuclear capability. But most people aren’t happy about that. We’re just waiting for GCAP mainly
